Love was. Love is. Love will be.
Becoming the LovingKind
We all start as humankind. With God’s help, we can become LovingKind.
I love reading the writings of the early church. The depth of love, knowledge and devotion to the gospel is astounding amongst the first generation of believers.
One of my favorite writers from this time is Ignatius of Antioch. He wrote several letters that have preserved early Christian thought. One of his favorite topics was unity of the church. In describing the Christian journey he says, “For faith is the beginning and the end is love, and God is the two of them brought into unity.”
I believe this quote is a very powerful directive for anyone wanting to follow Christ. Ignatius is telling us that our pursuit of God starts with our faith, but it continues on towards love. As we decrease, love increases. To be more like Jesus, we are walking toward and increasing in love.
John, the beloved disciple, tells us in scripture that God is Love. For the sake of clarity in my writing, I have begun to use all uppercase letters when referring to the LOVE that is God. God is LOVE. We are becoming LOVE.
Worship
Engaging in worship together is a fundamental part of our growth as a body of believers. We find unity in our shared outpouring of love and adoration to our Savior.
Scripture
The word of God is our truth. We must read it, know it and use it on a regular basis. For this reason, daily reading of the Bible is encouraged among all members of our congregation.
Prayer
Prayer is our open line to God. It is what brings us into relationship with our creator. Prayer is a way of life, not just for blessing of food and praying for the sick. It is what changes us.
Service
We cannot become whole without serving others. Jesus was the ultimate servant. Without service, we are a clanking symbol. Without service, the gospel is incomplete.
Statement of Faith
LovingKind Fellowship Church upholds a faith that embraces the gospel as lived by Jesus, recorded by His disciples, and defined by the apostles in the apostles creed. Our belief is anchored in the one true God, manifested as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and the redemptive power of Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. We commit to living in the fullness of God’s kingdom, striving for wholeness, and engaging in the continuous battle against evil while upholding virtues of humility, kindness, and love. Our inclusive community welcomes all who seek God’s truth, respecting the diverse journeys of faith and embracing the mysteries of God within us, among us, and through us.
